UniSC Student Guild
Role Overview:
UniSC Student Guild are searching for a supportive and professional team member to join their small but mighty team. Under the direction of the Student Guild Operations Manager, the Advocacy Officer will work as part of the team to support students in navigating University policy and procedures.
This position is based primarily at the Sippy Downs campus but may involve occasional travel to other Queensland-based campuses.
The position is flexible hours for the right candidate(s) – between 3 and 5 days per week.
The start date for this position is flexible – they’d love to have you on board by the end of January 2026.
What the day-to-day looks like:
1. Support – provide confidential support and advice to students (in person, on the phone, and by email) regarding academic and student matters, including identifying grounds, drafting appeals, providing feedback, and supporting students in meetings.
2. Advise – have a sound understanding of UniSC policies and procedures, ensuring students are informed about their rights and responsibilities.
3. Engagement – promote and grow the advocacy service through direct student engagement on social media and at their events.
4. Relationships – build connections with students, external support services and internal University stakeholders.
5. Research – consult and give feedback on policy documents, conduct research on sector trends and best practice, and analyse and understand current policy and procedures.

If you have a tertiary qualification in social work, education, law, or a related field, or equivalent experience – please reach out!
This role involves working with people from a variety of backgrounds – domestic students, international students, Guild staff, University staff, and making external community connections. You should be a people-person that has a strong sense of social justice and understands the ethical considerations of working with vulnerable populations.
You should also have excellent organisation, time-management, case-management, and communication skills (oral and written) and an understanding of social and/or academic issues affecting tertiary students.
