About the Role
The IT Operations Lead (Systems Administrator) is responsible for leading and managing day-to-day IT operations, systems, and service delivery to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability across ActivateUTS. You will oversee infrastructure, business systems, and IT projects, drive innovation through emerging technologies, including AI and automation, and mentor an IT team member.
This hands-on role requires someone who enjoys taking ownership, is accountable, and can collaborate effectively. You will work with vendors, UTS IT teams, and internal stakeholders to ensure ActivateUTS adopts best IT practices and delivers seamless service to the business.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Systems Administrator with experience leading a small IT operations or service delivery team who wants a role combining hands-on work, leadership, and strategic impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead IT operations and manage IT support team
- Assist in developing and implementing the organisation’s IT strategy, incorporating current technology trends and innovations such as artificial intelligence and automation.
- Oversee incident management and service requests (ITIL preferred)
- Maintain and enhance Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Dynamics 365, Business Central, and Power BI
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure system security and compliance
- Manage IT assets, procurement, deployment, lifecycle management, and software subscriptions
- Maintain networks, systems, and cybersecurity practices
- Lead IT projects, upgrades, and integrations, working with technical specialists and vendors
- Coordinate onboarding/offboarding processes and IT access
- Drive IT policy, governance, and best practices
- Collaborate with UTS ITD, vendors, and internal stakeholders
- Mentor and develop IT support staff

About You
- 3–5+ years’ experience across IT operations, systems administration, and support
- Tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- Proven leadership in managing IT teams in medium-sized organisations
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, MFA, Conditional Access
- Proven experience with Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, CRM, Business Central, Power BI, Exchange, and Google Workspace
- Skilled in IT project management and translating business needs into solutions
- Solid understanding of networks, VPNs, and security best practices
- Excellent communication, reporting, and stakeholder management
- Continuous improvement mindset and ability to work independently
Desirable
- ITIL framework familiarity or certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator, ITIL Foundation)
- Experience with AI, automation, and tertiary systems integration
