UOW Pulse are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Assistant Manager to join the UniShop team located on the University of Wollongong main campus. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role in a unique retail environment that provides textbooks, books, merchandise, stationary, gifts, accessories and more to the campus community.

Working closely with the UniShop Manager, you’ll help lead day-to-day operations of the store while taking ownership of our textbook adoptions, book buying, inventory management and customer experience. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to exciting initiatives including book clubs, author events, product development and promotions.

UOW Pulse are committed to flexibility. This role is available as either a full or part-time position (4 or 5 days).

 

About the Role 

As the Assistant Manager, you’ll be second-in-charge of UniShop and play an integral role in ensuring the store operates efficiently, commercially and professionally. You’ll work collaboratively with University academics, publishers, suppliers and internal stakeholders to coordinate textbook requirements while helping deliver an engaging retail experience for students, staff and the wider community.

  • Coordinate the University’s textbook adoption program with academic staff and publishers.
  • Supervise, train and mentor team members as required to support best outcomes for the business.
  • Manage purchasing, inventory, stock control and merchandising across textbooks and book categories.
  • Support the ongoing growth of the UniShop through sales initiatives, promotions and business improvement opportunities.
  • Coordinate book launches, author events and Book Club.
  • Develop strong relationships with academics, suppliers, publishers and community partners.
  • Help manage the UniShop website, ensuring products and information remain accurate and up to date.

About You

You’ll be proactive and enjoy building relationships while taking pride in delivering exceptional service. You’ll bring:

  • Experience in a retail leadership or supervisory role.
  • Strong experience in purchasing, inventory management and stock control.
  • Excellent organisational skills with outstanding attention to detail.
  • A customer-first approach and confidence resolving customer enquiries.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder relationship skills.
  • The ability to analyse sales and inventory data to make sound commercial decisions.
  • Confidence using POS systems and retail technology.
  • A genuine passion for books, education and the retail experience.

Experience in book retailing, publishing, education or the tertiary textbook sector will be highly regarded, as will experience using Booknet or similar inventory systems.
