Student Experience Network is the peak body for student experience professionals across Australia and New Zealand.

𝐒𝐄𝐍 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐍 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐄𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝟕 𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞!

In this episode of SEN Insights, we’re joined by Scott Millar, founder of BOP Industries and one of Australia’s leading voices on engaging Gen Z and Gen Alpha.

Scott shares his journey from teenage entrepreneur to working with some of the world’s biggest organisations, helping them better understand the next generation of students, employees and consumers. Together, we explore what today’s students really value, from purpose-driven work and flexible career paths to the role of technology, wellbeing and connection in shaping their experiences.

This conversation dives into the practical ways student experience leaders can better engage Gen Z and prepare for Gen Alpha, from rethinking communication styles and embracing co-creation, to building environments where students feel seen, supported and motivated to stay involved.

Congratulations to UOW Pulse - Your UniLife, winners of Best Sport & Recreation Initiative at the Student Experience Network Awards 2025 for their impactful program, Play Free Sport (PFS).

Designed to break down financial and social barriers, Play Free Sport offers free, inclusive weekly sporting sessions for students across a range of activities including soccer, basketball, badminton, and volleyball. Open to all skill levels, the program creates a welcoming environment where students can build confidence, stay active, and connect with others.

What sets PFS apart is its student-led model. Volunteers, many of whom begin as participants, take on leadership roles in delivering the program, developing valuable skills in event delivery, communication, and stakeholder engagement. With support, recognition through UOWx accreditation, and access to facilities, these student leaders play a key role in shaping the program’s ongoing success.

At its heart, Play Free Sport is about belonging. It provides a vital space for students, particularly those new to university or studying far from home, to form friendships, build routines, and feel part of a community. The result is a program that not only supports physical and mental wellbeing, but also fosters leadership, connection, and long-term engagement.

Is your program creating impact through sport and recreation?
The Best Sport & Recreation Initiative category in the Student Experience Network Awards 2026 recognises programs that use sport to strengthen wellbeing, inclusion, and community on campus. Whether it’s social sport, wellbeing-focused programs, or leadership-driven initiatives, we want to see how you’re making a difference.

If your team is delivering meaningful outcomes through sport, now is the time to enter and showcase your success!

Congratulations to @arcunsw, winners of Best Event or Activity at the Student Experience Network Awards 2025 for their standout event, HobbyCon.

Inspired by major pop culture conventions like SMASH! and Supanova, HobbyCon transformed the UNSW Roundhouse into a vibrant creative expo celebrating hobby and special interest clubs.

Bringing together over 3,000 students, the event featured 30 clubs, 30 student artists, live performances, arcade games, and an epic cosplay competition. From esports-style League of Legends matches to immersive VR experiences and hands-on access to the newly released Nintendo Switch 2, HobbyCon delivered something for everyone.

A standout feature was the Artist Alley, where students could showcase and sell their creative work in a supportive, accessible environment. By removing traditional cost barriers, the initiative empowered emerging artists to build confidence, develop their craft, and take the next step in their creative journeys.

At its core, HobbyCon was about connection. By co-designing the event with students and clubs, Arc created a space where niche communities could thrive, discover new audiences, and foster a strong sense of belonging on campus.

Could your event be the next to take the spotlight?
The Best Event or Activity category in the Student Experience Network Awards 2026 celebrates creative, engaging experiences that bring campus communities to life. Whether it’s a large-scale festival, a niche activation, or something entirely new, we want to see how your team is creating memorable moments for students.

If you’ve delivered an event that’s made an impact, now is the time to enter and showcase your success.
