We’re excited to welcome Weihong Liang to present at SENCON 2026 - BELONG!

For many international students, the challenge of finding connection and community doesn't end after Orientation Week. Building a genuine sense of belonging requires ongoing partnership, engagement, and opportunities for students to shape their own experience.

In Beyond Welcome Week: Partnering with International Students to Build Belonging, attendees will explore how institutions can move beyond traditional orientation models to create meaningful, long-term connections with international students. Through practical examples and shared insights, this session will highlight the power of working alongside students to design initiatives that foster inclusion, community, and engagement throughout the student journey.

Weihong brings a unique student-led perspective to this conversation. As National President of the International Students Representative Council of Australia and a PhD candidate in Sociology at the University of Sydney, his work spans international education, university governance and national advocacy. He currently serves as the postgraduate student Fellow of the University Senate and has been a passionate advocate for improving outcomes for international students through initiatives focused on affordability, employability, student representation and support services.

As campuses continue to welcome students from increasingly diverse backgrounds, creating environments where international students feel connected, valued and supported has never been more important. This session will provide valuable ideas for anyone looking to strengthen belonging and enhance the international student experience.

This is a must-attend session for professionals committed to creating inclusive campus communities where every student has the opportunity to thrive.

We can’t wait for you to hear from Weihong at SENCON 2026!

In this episode of SEN Insights, Paul chats with Jamie Agombar, Executive Director of Students Organising for Sustainability UK (SOS-UK), to explore how student-led action can drive meaningful change in sustainability, education and society.

Jamie shares the remarkable journey of transforming a small sustainability team within the National Union of Students into one of the UK's leading independent youth-led charities. From pioneering initiatives such as Teach the Future and Responsible Futures to launching the National Union of School Students, Jamie discusses the power of empowering young people to turn climate anxiety into action.

The conversation also delves into how Jamie's experiences as an autistic, dyslexic and ADHD leader have shaped his approach to tackling complex, systemic challenges, and why neurodivergent thinking can be a powerful force for innovation and change.

Together, Paul and Jamie examine the evolving role of universities in sustainability, the importance of integrating climate and nature into every discipline, and why creating nature-friendly campuses is essential for student wellbeing and resilience.

This episode offers practical insights on accelerating sustainability in tertiary education, fostering collaboration across borders, and empowering the next generation of changemakers.

At the @universityofthesunshinecoast, the @nationa At the @universityofthesunshinecoast, the @nationalcampusmusiccomp Showcase Activation Grant helped enhance this year's Gratitude Gathering, an annual event recognising and celebrating the incredible contributions of student volunteers during National Volunteer Week.

Delivered by UniSC in partnership with the @uniscstudentguild, the event brought together students across multiple campuses to celebrate volunteering, connection and community.

Supported by the grant, four current UniSC music students were engaged as paid performers, bringing live music to the Fraser Coast, Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay and Gympie campuses. Their performances helped create a vibrant atmosphere while providing valuable opportunities for emerging artists to gain experience and showcase their talent.

The Gratitude Gathering welcomed more than 500 students across five campuses, with free food, drinks, entertainment and activities creating opportunities for students to connect, take a break from their studies and celebrate the impact of student volunteers.

Despite challenging weather and the lead-up to exams, the event was a great success, demonstrating how live student music can elevate campus activations, strengthen community and create memorable experiences for everyone involved.

Congratulations to UniSC and the UniSC Student Guild for delivering another outstanding event and continuing to champion student talent through the National Campus Music Comp Showcase Activation!

Congratulations to the @tusa.org.au on the opening of @grounded.socialenterprise, a new social enterprise café designed to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students.

More than just a café, Grounded has been established to support TUSA's Food Hub program, helping provide assistance to students experiencing food insecurity across the University of Tasmania community. Revenue generated through the café contributes directly to initiatives that improve access to affordable and nutritious food for students facing financial pressures.

Grounded also creates a welcoming space for students to connect, study and build community, while supporting a program that is making a tangible impact on student wellbeing.

As cost-of-living pressures continue to affect students across Australia and New Zealand, initiatives like Grounded demonstrate the important role student organisations play in developing innovative and sustainable ways to support their communities.

Well done to the TUSA team on bringing this exciting project to life and creating a sustainable way to support students facing food insecurity!

In this special panel episode of SEN Insights, Paul talks with leading experts, advocates, researchers and industry representatives to explore the growing challenge of drink spiking and what it means for student communities, campus venues and those responsible for student safety and wellbeing.

Together, the panel examines emerging trends in drink spiking, the barriers to reporting and detection, and the impact on victim survivors. Drawing on research, lived experience and industry expertise, they discuss how education, training, technology and collaboration can strengthen prevention and response efforts.

The episode also explores new innovations in rapid drink testing technology, including how these tools may support prevention, evidence preservation and incident response, while highlighting the importance of training, clear protocols and cross-sector collaboration.

For student experience professionals, the conversation offers valuable insights into creating safer social environments, strengthening support pathways and fostering a culture where students feel confident reporting incidents and seeking help.

Joining the discussion are Troy W. Stewart (Managing Director of SureScreen Diagnostics (Australia), George Newham (Head of Science at SureScreen Diagnostics), Dr Tim Boyle (Chief Executive Officer of ARCS Australia), Sarah Williams (Chief Executive Officer and Founder of What Were You Wearing? - Australia), Brittany Lauga (Former Queensland MP and Victim Survivor Advocate), Sophie Watson (WIN News Journalist and Victim Survivor Advocate), Associate Professor Dr Lata Gautam (Anglia Ruskin University, UK), and Craig Kidd (Chair of the Albury Liquor Accord) who could not attend but played a significant role in this discussion.
