Our Story
SEN has evolved alongside the tertiary sector for more than 25 years.
In 1999, SEN began as the ACUMA Buying Co-operative, established to pool purchasing power for campus food, beverage and retail operations.
Following the introduction of Voluntary Student Unionism (VSU) in 2006, the organisation became increasingly focused on helping student organisations achieve greater efficiency, sustainability and value through collaboration.
In 2008, we became the Tertiary Access Group (TAG), reflecting our expanding commercial procurement and benefit partner network. In 2014, our constitution was broadened to welcome multiple member organisations from individual campuses, including sports associations and independent guilds.
The integration of ACUMA and the Australasian Association for Campus Activities (AACA) in 2015–16 further strengthened our focus on advocacy, professional development, collaboration and commercial opportunities.
In 2021, following a member-led review, we adopted the name Student Experience Network (SEN), reflecting our broader purpose and the diverse organisations that make up our network.
In 2025–26, SEN transitioned to a company limited by guarantee and registered charity, modernising our governance and establishing the foundation for our next chapter.
Today, SEN brings the sector together to connect, collaborate, share knowledge and create better student experiences across Australia and New Zealand.
