Sydney Uni Sport is seeking a dynamic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our Executive Team and lead the financial strategy, governance, and operational performance of one of Australia’s most vibrant university sporting organisations.
The Opportunity
As CFO, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring our financial sustainability and compliance, while delivering insights that shape strategic decision-making. You’ll oversee all aspects of financial operations and IT, manage a substantial deposit base, and support the ongoing development of a high-performing finance team.
This role offers a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of sport, education, and business – contributing to the legacy of one of Australia’s oldest and most respected sporting institutions.
Ideally, the successful candidate will commence by mid-November 2025; however, the start date is negotiable for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead financial strategy, planning, forecasting and governance reporting
- Advise the CEO and Board on financial risk and opportunity
- Oversee financial operations, reporting, audits and treasury functions
- Manage budgets, balance sheet, SSAF grants, and regulatory compliance
- Mentor and lead a skilled finance and IT team
- Build strong relationships across clubs, university stakeholders and external partners
About You
You’re a commercially astute finance leader with strong strategic capability, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and a passion for purpose-driven organisations. You thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments and have a track record of leading finance functions to deliver both operational excellence and strategic insight.
You’ll have:
- CA/CPA qualification with tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting or Business
- 7–10+ years’ experience in senior finance leadership roles
- Applicants must have significant experience in a senior finance leadership role within a complex organisation.
- Strong knowledge of financial management, planning and reporting in complex organisations
- Proven ability to lead teams, drive improvements and manage change
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP BusinessByDesign and Concur advantageous)
- A collaborative leadership style and excellent communication skills
