The University of Newcastle Students’ Association (UNSA) is looking for an organised, friendly, and community‑minded Administrative Assistant to support the Student Representative Council (SRC) and Advocacy & Governance (A&G) team.
This role is perfect for someone who enjoys helping others, keeping systems running smoothly, and supporting student leaders to create positive change on campus.
About the Role
Working within the Advocacy & Governance team, you will play a vital part in the smooth operation of the SRC.
You’ll help keep representatives engaged, informed, and supported by:
- Maintaining accurate records and communication systems;
- Supporting SRC operations, expectations, and compliance;
- Assisting representatives with portfolio activities, projects, and events;
- Helping onboard new representatives and provide tools that set them up for success; and
- Coordinating basic administrative workflows and responding professionally to student enquiries.
This is a highly people‑focused role, ideal for someone who enjoys variety, teamwork, and supporting student leadership.
What You’ll Do
- Maintain SRC systems, registers, timelines, and documentation;
- Support the General Secretary and A&G Supervisor with SRC operations and compliance;
- Communicate regularly with SRC members to keep them engaged and supported;
- Assist with representative onboarding, training coordination, and resource preparation;
- Provide administrative support for portfolio activities, events, and student engagement;
- Manage the SRC inbox and triage enquiries with professionalism and care;
- Track representative involvement, progress, and training completion; and
- Model UNSA’s values and contribute to a positive, inclusive SRC culture.
You’ll thrive in this role if you are:

- Comfortable using Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Planner, Forms, Excel).
Desirable Experience (Not Essential)
- Experience in administrative, student-facing, or governance support roles;
- Understanding of student representation or committee operations;
- Experience in University, not-for-profit, or community envrionments;
- Mental Health First Aid, Cultural Awareness, or Disability Awareness training.
What They’re Looking For
- Relevant qualification or equivalent experience in administration, business, events or related;
- A valid NSW Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle (travel between campuses may be required);
- National Police Check (desirable); and/or
- First Aid Certificate (desirable).
