University of Queensland Union (UQU) is a student-led, not-for-profit organisation strengthening people foundations, uplifting leadership capability, and embedding people-centred practices that enable teams to thrive, so they can deliver the best possible experience for UQ students.
They’re looking for an engaging, vibrant People & Culture Advisor to join their People & Culture Team and play an active role in projects that drive cultural change, improve employee experience, and set othe workforce up for success.
This role is available immediately until 30 June 2026. Funding will be reviewed, with the potential for extension subject to approval.
The People & Culture Team partners closely with leaders and teams across UQU to build strong, practical, and people-centred systems, frameworks, and ways of working.

What you’ll do
This role is ideal for someone who wants to get involved, build capability, and contribute to work that has real impact.
You’ll work across a mix of project delivery, people partnering, and operational People & Culture support, including:
People & Culture projects
- Contributing to the design and delivery of priority People & Culture initiatives that support cultural uplift
- Supporting the development and rollout of UQU’s Wellness Framework, including wellbeing and psychosocial safety initiatives
- Helping streamline onboarding and induction processes to strengthen the employee experience
- Contributing to the design and implementation of UQU’s performance planning and development process
- Supporting change initiatives through communications, resources, training materials, and stakeholder engagement
People & Culture partnering
- Acting as a People & Culture Partner, supporting leaders to embed practical, people-centred leadership practices
- Providing guidance, coaching, and hands-on support aligned with UQU’s values and people strategy
- Contributing to the ongoing improvement of the People & Culture Partner Program
Operational People & Culture support
- Providing day-to-day People & Culture support across recruitment, onboarding, and employee lifecycle activities
- Assisting with employment contracts, variations, and HR documentation
- Maintaining accurate HR records and supporting HR systems and reporting
- Applying sound judgement and escalating complex or high-risk matters appropriately
Wellbeing & safety
- Working alongside the WHS Officer to support wellbeing, WHS, and psychosocial safety initiatives
- Assisting with WHS documentation, consultation processes, training coordination, and reporting
- Supporting the integration of wellbeing and safety considerations into broader People & Culture initiatives

You’ll bring
- Relevant qualifications and/or equivalent hands-on experience in People & Culture, Human Resources, organisational development, or a similar people-focused role
- Experience contributing to people-related projects, initiatives, or frameworks
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Sound judgement, discretion, and comfort handling sensitive matters
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Experience working with HR systems and maintaining accurate records
- Awareness of employment legislation, wellbeing, WHS, or psychosocial safety principles

- Contract: Fixed-term, immediate start until 30 June 2026
