ABOUT THE ROLE
MONSU Caulfield is seeking a Student Advocacy Officer (SAO) who will work as an advocate, providing confidential advice and support to undergraduate Monash University students on all matters concerning academic and administrative issues.
MONSU Caulfield is dedicated to providing excellent support services to students. This role ensures the delivery of high-level advocacy support, supporting students to have a successful academic experience and improving their overall university experience.
- $67,000 – $72,00 salary
- Part-time position (4 days per week)
- 18-month fixed-term contract
- Flexible work arrangements available at some times during the year.
- This position will have an expected start date in January 2026.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide confidential support and advice to students regarding academic and student issues. Refer students to other professional services as appropriate.
- Have a sound understanding of Monash University policies and procedures, ensuring students are informed about requirements for a successful academic experience.
- Research, develop, coordinate and implement Student Advocacy service projects and programs to meet the needs of students.
- Uphold high standards of professionalism and deliver excellent advocacy support.
- Develop and foster close working relationships with key stakeholders, university staff and relevant community organisations to enhance and grow the Student Advocacy service. Contribute and provide feedback to advisory networks, Monash University committees, and student association forums as required.
- Assist in the preparation of communications outputs regarding the Student Advocacy service. This includes but is not limited to social media copy, email newsletters, websites and promotional materials.
- Assist in delivering specific student events, programs & training.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA: ESSENTIAL
- Knowledge of the social issues affecting tertiary students or educational institutions.
- A degree qualification and 1 year of demonstrated advocacy experience within the education or community sector.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct relevant research, develop key networking relationships and produce quality programs and outcomes for students.
- Demonstrated high level of written, verbal and listening communication skills and the ability to communicate with people from a variety of backgrounds effectively.
- High-level of organisational skills, time management skills, a high level of attention to detail, and the ability to respond efficiently to competing demands.
- Demonstrated strong teamwork capabilities and proactive initiative.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA: DESIRABLE
- Knowledge of student organisations or not-for-profit community groups.
- Knowledge of the tertiary sector legislation, university policies and procedures.
