About the Position
The Safer Communities Team Leader provides strategic and operational leadership to CDU’s Safer Communities student service, ensuring high-quality, trauma-informed prevention and response support and activities across gender-based violence, racism, safety, bullying, and harassment and ensures LGBTQIA+ inclusion for CDU students. This role also manages student ambassadors representing Student Support (WARAtahs), who contribute to the ideation, planning, and delivery of events, activities, initiatives, and
programs aimed at promoting respect, wellbeing, and equity.

The position ensures CDU meets compliance obligations under the National Code (particularly Standard 2), delivers complex case coordination, oversees discloser/respondent support arrangements, and drives institutional cultural change initiatives. The Team Leader plays a critical role in data management, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring CDU remains a safe and respectful community for all students across on-campus, online, regional and VET environments.
The Team Leader works autonomously and collaboratively to identify current and emerging safety risks, implement best-practice prevention programs, and strengthen CDU’s organisational capability to respond to student incidents involving violence, discrimination, or harm.

About You
To be successful, you will require:
• Relevant degree qualifications and registration (or eligibility) with an appropriate professional association.
• Extensive experience providing trauma-informed responses to gender-based violence, bullying, harassment or other safety-related behaviours.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, including supervising multidisciplinary teams.
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in culturally diverse contexts, including First Nations and international student cohorts.
• Strong understanding of best-practice approaches to complex case management, risk assessment, and crisis response.
• Ability to exercise sound professional judgment, uphold confidentiality, and operate within legislative, ethical, and organisational frameworks.
• Experience in data collection, report writing and contributing to program evaluation and continuous improvement.
• High-level digital literacy, including use of case management systems and office software applications.
• Capacity to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrating ethical, anti-discriminatory and culturally safe practice.
• Commitment to the University’s values.
