This National Youth Volunteer Week, we’re taking a This National Youth Volunteer Week, we’re taking a moment to acknowledge the incredible student volunteers who give their time, energy and passion to making campus communities better.

Across the SEN network, student volunteers are at the heart of so much of what our members do. From clubs and societies, events and activities, advocacy and student representation, to wellbeing initiatives, community programs and everything in between, their contribution makes a real difference.

Volunteering gives students the opportunity to build connections, develop new skills, find their voice and create positive change for their peers. But just as importantly, it helps create the vibrant, inclusive and connected communities that make the student experience so much more than a classroom.

Here’s to the students who show up, get involved and make a difference!

What happens when two universities merge, and two distinct student associations have to become one?

In this episode of SEN Insights, Paul is joined by Heidi Mander, inaugural CEO of the @ausa.adelaide, to unpack the realities of navigating one of Australia’s biggest higher education mergers.

Heidi shares candid insights into bringing together two different organisational cultures, establishing strong student representation, managing staff uncertainty and burnout, navigating governance and operational challenges, and delivering student services while building an entirely new organisation.

From O-Week and clubs and societies to strategic planning and maintaining student voice, Heidi reflects on what worked, what didn’t, and the lessons she would take into any future merger.

As cost of living pressures continue to impact stu As cost of living pressures continue to impact students, the @ecuguild is stepping up with the launch of a new Food Pantry, providing dignified, equitable and accessible support for students experiencing food insecurity.

Supported by a $20,000 contribution from ECU through the ECU Hardship Fund, the pilot program offers students access to essential food supplies in a welcoming, respectful environment, helping to ease financial pressure while ensuring no student has to choose between buying groceries and continuing their studies.

The initiative is a fantastic example of collaboration in action, with the ECU Student Guild and ECU working together to deliver meaningful support that strengthens campus communities and helps students thrive.

Congratulations to the team at the ECU Student Guild on this important initiative and their ongoing commitment to student wellbeing.

Looking for a great opportunity to share with your students? @mygigpass is making it easier for 18–25 year olds to experience live music across New South Wales, with exclusive weekly ticket offers from 28 participating venues.

From free entry and double passes to two-for-one tickets and discounted gigs, MyGigPass helps students discover emerging and established artists without the price tag becoming a barrier.

Created by the Live Music Venues Alliance (@lmva_au) , the initiative was developed in response to a growing challenge facing both young people and the live music industry. While most young Australians value live music, cost remains one of the biggest barriers to attending. MyGigPass is helping change that by connecting students with affordable live music experiences every week.

Whether your students are passionate about music, looking to explore their local creative scene or simply after an affordable night out, this is a fantastic resource to share across your campus.

If you're a NSW member, help spread the word by sharing MyGigPass with your student community.

We’re excited to welcome Bart Walsh as our opening keynote speaker at SENCON 2026: BELONG!

Life doesn't always go to plan, but what if our greatest challenges could become our greatest opportunities? In this inspiring keynote, Bart will challenge attendees to rethink adversity and discover how resilience, courage and mindset can transform the way we lead, work and support others.

Through his powerful framework of Own Your Circumstance, Seek Discomfort, and Love Your Fate, Bart will share practical strategies for navigating uncertainty, embracing change and performing at your best when life gets hard. Attendees will leave with actionable tools to build resilience, strengthen their leadership and create teams and communities that thrive through challenge, not despite it.

Bart is one of Australia's leading performance and resilience speakers, combining lived experience with practical leadership insights. After overcoming cancer, navigating the loss of his firstborn son and living with a degenerative neurological condition, Bart has dedicated his career to helping organisations build resilient, high-performing teams. His authentic storytelling and practical approach have inspired leaders and teams across Australia to turn adversity into lasting growth.

This is a must-attend keynote for anyone looking to build resilience, lead with purpose and create cultures where people feel supported, connected and empowered to thrive.

In this episode of SEN Insights, Paul is joined by Carly Hoey, Safe and Respectful Campus Advisor, and Aleisha Howey, Sports Engagement Coordinator, from the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC).

Together, they explore how UniSC's innovative "Be That Teammate" initiative is using sport as a platform to build safer, more respectful campus communities. From tackling harmful behaviours and gender-based violence to fostering inclusion, wellbeing and positive team culture, Carly and Aleisha share how collaboration between student wellbeing and sport is creating meaningful change both on and off the field.

The conversation highlights the importance of engaging students through authentic, relatable messaging, creating trusted relationships, and designing interactive learning experiences that resonate. They also discuss the power of cross-department collaboration, why students should be seen as individuals rather than a single cohort, and how empowering students with the confidence to speak up is shaping a new generation of leaders.

Whether you're working in student wellbeing, sport, student engagement or campus leadership, this episode offers practical insights into building partnerships that strengthen culture, improve student safety and create lasting impact across the student experience.

Live music is coming back to campus!

Created by Queensland University of Technology's (QUT) student-led Vermilion Records and funded by Creative Australia, The Campus Revival Tour is a four-part interstate initiative bringing live music back to university campuses while supporting the next generation of Australian artists.

By transforming campuses into vibrant cultural hubs, the initiative is helping strengthen Australia's grassroots live music scene and build stronger connections between education and industry.
