SESSION OVERVIEW

Belonging has become one of the most important predictors of student wellbeing, engagement and success, yet creating genuine connection on campus is becoming increasingly challenging.

This session explores how events, services and campus activations can become powerful tools for building community rather than simply filling a calendar. Through real-world case studies, practical frameworks and student insights, we’ll unpack what creates meaningful interactions, encourages repeat participation and transforms strangers into communities.

Leave with fresh ideas, practical tools and a new perspective on designing experiences that students don’t just attend, they become part of.

By the end of this session attendees will:

  • Understand the relationship between belonging, connection and student success.
  • Identify design principles that encourage meaningful social interaction.
  • Learn practical ways to create inclusive events where every student feels welcome.
  • Learn practical tools and easy-to-follow frameworks to implement at your own institutions.
  • Explore low-cost, high-impact ideas that increase engagement and repeat attendance.
  • Leave with actionable strategies they can implement immediately.
