SESSION OVERVIEW

Following the identification of practice standards as a critical need for the sector at SENCON 2024— Laura Murray has taken the initiative to begin developing the ASASA practice standards. Drawing on her Bachelor of Social Work and current honours research, Laura brings both theoretical grounding and practical frontline experience to this essential work of establishing professional benchmarks for student advocacy services nationwide. This session will focus on establishing what matters to student advocates to ensure that the practice standards are reflective of needs.

PRESENTER

Laura Murray has been an Independent Student Advocate with UNE Life since 2021, contributing to a significant shift that has seen the professionalisation of Advocacy and Welfare at UNE. This transformation has resulted in a multidisciplinary team comprising staff with backgrounds in health, law, education, psychology, social work and community services.
