About The Role

The Manager, Student Success reports directly to the Deputy Director of Student Engagement and is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of high-quality co-curricular and extra-curricular academic and learning support programs. These programs span University-wide student support initiatives, localized services targeting specific cohorts, and intensive outreach campaigns for high-needs and at-risk students.

This role leads and manages two distinct service teams: the Learning and Academic Skills (LAS) team and the Student Success Adviser (SSA) team. The Manager is supported by two Team Leaders who oversee the day-to-day operations of their respective service areas and teams. In addition to managing the operational performance and development of resources within the Student Success department, the Manager is expected to provide strategic advice to senior management and key stakeholders. This includes contributing to the creation and implementation of strategies, plans, and policies designed to increase student retention, enhance student success, and improve the accessibility and effectiveness of both physical and online learning and support environments at Swinburne. The Manager may also be called upon to provide guidance on complex student matters and to produce regular reports demonstrating the impact of the services provided.

As a member of the Student Engagement leadership group, the Manager, Student Success must collaborate effectively with teams and leaders across the University to uphold Student Engagement’s reputation for impact and effectiveness, maintaining recognition as a senior manager.

 

About You  
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
·       Extensive experience in leadership and management of a specialist unit with diverse and complex functions, including programs and services for students at risk of academic failure
·       Proven extensive expertise in the leadership, implementation and evaluation of institution-wide programs, plans and strategic initiatives
·       Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives and organisational change
·       Sound knowledge and understanding of theories and frameworks as they relate to student success and engagement as well as Victorian and Commonwealth legislation, guidelines and standards governing student participation in higher education, equal opportunity and anti-discrimination, and privacy
