Clubs – What Now? Where Next? – Freyja Gillard (La Trobe University)

BIO:  Freyja Gillard is Senior Coordinator, Student Clubs & Engagement at La Trobe University.  She is a trained workshop facilitator and has worked with Clubs and Student Committees and in Student Events and Engagement for over 10 years at four different institutions covering both Student Unions and Universities.

SESSION OVERVIEW:  This will be am interactive workshop looking at the experience of clubs and staff working with clubs in 2024.  The session is designed to support discussions around:

• Capacity and skill-building in club executives
• (Re)Building programs post COVID
• Celebrating wins
• Problem sharing and peer-to-peer solutions
• Goal setting for the future

This session is designed for staff who support clubs and will particularly be of benefit to those who are new to the area or have had programs impacted by COVID.

At the end of the session, attendees will feel a sense of connection and relief, knowing there is a network of people who share similar experiences and who they can reach out to for support.  They will come away with practical advice and ideas for developing their own programs and potential plans for a refresh in approach.

Outcomes from the session will include:

• Building connection across the Club Community of Practice cohort
• Problem solving and inspiration for staff working with clubs
• Invigoration and inspiration for staff developing programs
• Practical advice and tools for capacity-building and club executive development
