International Recreation Activities Officer – The University of Sydney Union
About the role:
Are you passionate about creating engaging and inclusive experiences for international students? The University of Sydney Union (USU) is seeking an energetic and organised International Recreation Activities Officer to develop and implement programs that foster community engagement and enrich the campus experience. You will coordinate events, manage stakeholders, and create meaningful opportunities for international students to connect with campus life.
The USU is Australia’s largest student-led organization, dedicated to enhancing the student experience at the University of Sydney. They support over 200 student clubs, host major events, and provide essential services that make campus life vibrant and inclusive. As a not-for-profit, they reinvest all income into programs that benefit the student community.
What you will do:
- Develop and implement strategies to increase international student participation in campus programs and events.
- Coordinate major student events such as International Orientation, Campus Race, and Language Exchange.
- Assist in organising International Festival, ensuring collaboration and effective communication with international student groups and external stakeholders.
- Oversee event logistics, including staff and volunteer coordination, stakeholder engagement, and budget management.
- Conduct community research and consultation to align programs with student needs.
- Ensure all events adhere to Work Health & Safety (WHS) guidelines and USU policies.
Essential criteria
- Tertiary qualification in Communications or Marketing, Event Management, or a related field.
- Proven experience in delivering events, marketing campaigns, and content development.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Understanding of the youth market (18–24-year-olds) and student engagement.
- Ability to manage competing deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion for working with diverse communities and fostering inclusivity.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working with international student communities.
- Proficiency in a language other than English.
- Familiarity with the University of Sydney and USU activities.
- Experience in a not-for-profit or student-focused environment.
- NSW Driver’s License (Provisional or above).
